Celtic Knotwork

For the past 18 years I have been fascinated with drawing Celtic Knotwork and ancient Nordic designs. There is a clear relationship between early Viking artifacts and the refined knotwork of the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells. I have made several jewelry pieces and artifact recreations using these designs. Here are some pieces of original Celtic illumination made in collaboration with Cornwell ScribeWorks.
Materials used are ink, gouache
and 23K gold leaf.
